1. Introduction
On the ESP-WX, ESP-CG4 and ESP-PCI there are programmable devices manufactured by Lattice Semiconductor. To Program these devices you require:
1. Lattice ispStarter Kit
Available from your Lattice Semiconductor distributor (approximately US$75). This package includes download software and a download cable and runs on a PC.
2. winzip.exe (or other decompression software)
Available from from the Internet for free.
The combination of cards you can program are:
1. Just the ESP-WX.
2. ESP-WX with ESP-CG4 attached
3. ESP-WX with ESP-CG4 and ESP-PCI attached
Which ever combination you are programming, they are referred to as the WX-block.
2. Getting the download files
Download the wxcgpcX.zip file from the Fairlight bulletin board. X is the required revision. Uncompress this file (with directories) to C:\. You now have a sub-tree at C:\PROJ containing the required files.
3. Programming the Lattice devices
1. Place the WX-block into the Fairlight mainframe and turn on power.
2. Connect the Lattice download cable to the printer port of the PC and to JP1 on the ESP-WX.
3. Start the ICDC application on the PC.
If the cable is not connected correctly or no power is applied to the ESP-WX, the application will issue a warning.
4. Select File then Open and select the C:\PROJ\ESP- WX\LATTICE\DLD\revX
directory.
If programming the ESP-WX, select the wxX.dld file and click OK.
If programming the ESP-WX,ESP-CG4 , select the wxcg X.dld file and click OK.
If programming the ESP-WX,ESP-CG4,ESP-PCI, select the wxcgpcX.dld and click OK.
5. You will see that the ‘Operation’ fields are all set to ‘Verify’. Change all of these fields to ‘Program and Verify’ and select Command then Run download. This operation will take about 2 minutes and will display the progress.
If successful, the ‘Status’ fields will all show ‘Pass’.
6. Switch off the power and remove the Lattice download cable.
